A childhood adventure, set to music. When I was a kid, the boy next door and I were great pals and we would play Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn together. We would climb trees, build rafts, and catch frogs. One summer I got very sick and, after a few days, he got brave enough to come knock on my door. He asked my mom if her "little boy" was home. She told him she only had two daughters (my little sister also played Becky Thatcher). He was very confused and, once I got better, mom took me next door to talk about all this with his mom. Things were never really the same after that.
That's growing up, I reckon.

Lyrics

Past the hedge and through the fence
He had muscle, I had sense
his had freckles, mine had none
dirty faces having fun, and
Down the path until we reached the bog
Hidden raft behind the hollow log
up ahead, there's trouble to get it while we played Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
Grubby fingers; grassy knees
we caught frogs and we climbed trees
his was red; mine was brown
heads together all around town
In the river, through the weeds,
built a fort between the willow trees
he was funny, I had style
true companions all the while
Down the path until we reached the bog
Hidden raft behind the hollow log
up ahead, there's trouble to get it while we played Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
Army guys; tonka trucks; secret spies running out of luck
All good things, or so they say,
seem to change in just one day.
Mine are brown, his were blue,
he was a boy and thought I was one too.
'Til he learned I was a girl
seemed to shatter his whole world
Found him hiding up in a tree
told him "land sakes, I'm still me!"
Down the path until we reached the bog
Hidden raft behind the hollow log
up ahead, there's trouble to get it while we
played Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
La, la, la, la, la, it was me and him,
La, la, la, la, la Huckleberry Finn
La, la, la, la, la.
