From the recording I Think I Am
A very haunting song with an intriguing Celtic/Folklore feel.
There's a story here, a dark feeling legend about things once yearned for left behind to decay and become worthless. This song gives a second chance to remember those wishes left behind. Once remembered, they may give you one more chance to make them real. There is power here.
That day you blew out the candles, or made a wish on a star, it all applies. Those are powerful feelings, and once were sent off, with hope. This song is an opportunity, like an old scrapbook, to take a look back and maybe, just maybe, the looking will help some new hope to arise.
This track is the final mix/incarnation for this song. It's been challenging getting what's in my head down as a recording. Getting the "Bones" played in this song was a tricky necessity. This track is part of my album "I Think I Am" released on World Wide Music Day, June 21st, 2016. If you would like a copy of that CD, please join my list and email me!
Lyrics
That place by the pond
Windows boarded shut
Doors have all been locked
Everything forgotten
A broken fairy tale
From once upon a time
But time no longer cared
And left it all behind
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond one day?
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in to throw it all away?
Gate around the back
Briers over grown it
Water deep and black
Where pennies all were thrown in
Cast into the mud
All the fragile hope
Pennies every one
Wishes left alone
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond one day?
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in to throw it all away?
There was a little girl
A sparkle in the fountain
One ribbon by the stone
Her family name upon it
A penny for each thought
A prayer sent away
For every penny tossed
Into a silent grave
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond one day?
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in the pond a penny in the pond
Did you put a penny in the pond a penny in to throw it all away?
To throw it all away? To throw it all away.
